Todd Cochran Trio (TC3)

Guest Artist / Jazz Ensemble
Todd Cochran, piano

Lyndon Rochelle, drums

The more avenues an artist can draw upon, the more original their music will tend to sound. Pianist, composer, electronic musician Todd Cochran crafts music that embodies contemporary culture and merges cutting-edge creative concepts. With a sweeping musical palette, the Todd Cochran trio – TC3 – captivates the listeners with its imagination.

Todd’s years of classical music study, and then the tutelage of American jazz masters, have laid a solid foundation for his art. His performances, enriched by a vast aray of musical influences from the traditions of African and Asian diaspora, global pop, and contemporary art music culture, consistently spark intrigue and fascination among audiences.

Todd’s work has significantly influenced others. A short list of his collaborations includes Herbie Hancock, Peter Gabriel, Automatic Man, Phil Collins, Maya Angelou, Joan Armatrading, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Clarke, Stewart Copeland, John Handy, Rashaan Roland Kirk, Jeff Beck, Burt Bacharach, Woody Shaw, Natalie Cole, and Neil Diamond.

For Todd, music is a global village where different humanities converge. He views creativity as a shared experience, aiming to make the audience feel included in a larger musical conversation. He says, “when asked what to call the music I’m now imagining and creating, I say it’s expressive realism. This music embodies all the things I believe in about the richness of a diverse and freely interacting culture: shared emotions, concerns for a healthy human condition, and hopes for the positive future of our world.”

John Leftwich, bass, is a multifaceted, inventive musician. A native of San Diego and student of Burt Turetsky, he began his career after completing college with five years of recording and touring with the legendary Carmen McRae. Additionally, he has performed and/or recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Hubert Laws, Sergio Mendez, Milla Jovovich, Leo Kottke, Melody Gardot, Yasuko Agawa, and Lyle Lovett. John was also the music director of Rickie Lee Jones for many years.

Lyndon Rochelle, drums, an alumnus of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, is a creative rhythmist with a unique contemporary palette. Lyndon has a rich history of performances with some of today’s most distinctive artists – Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano, Hank Jones, George Duke, Yellow Jackets, Remember Rockefeller Jazz Orchestra, the Prometheus Dance Company, etc. – including at such notable events as the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony for President Barrack Obama with Esperanza Spaulding. “His passion for both music and life are on full display every time he sits down to play.” – All About Jazz.
