Suejin Jung
Noted for her “exhilarating, alternately mysterious, lighthearted, but also profound, contemplative playing” (Opus Klassiek) and for “stepping outside the box – artistically and personally” (Goodmesh), Suejin Jung leads a distinctive international career as a concert pianist, presenter, and multimedia artist. A recipient of the Harriet Hale Woolley Fellowship, she is the founder of MIMA, a cross-disciplinary initiative that supports collaborative art-making and education of young musicians. MIMA’s young artists have been featured in venues like Zipper Hall in Los Angeles and awarded full scholarships to attend summer programs as Montecito International Music Festival. She is the 1st Prize winner at the Goodmesh Concours for her multimedia project Breathmark, featured on her debut album released by the TRPTK label. As a soloist and collaborative pianist, Jung has appeared with Ensemble Calliopée, the Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra, Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, The Discovery Orchestra, and the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, with performances broadcast and live-streamed by PBS, NPO Klassiek, and The Strad.
Jung earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, where she received the Kamiya Sisters, Paul Jacobs Memorial, and G.G. Ulmer Memorial Scholarships. She continued her studies at the École Normale de Musique de Paris as a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar at the Fondation des États-Unis, and later completed her Doctorate in Piano Performance at Rutgers University. She has performed at major festivals including Music Academy International, the Écoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau, and the New York International Piano Competition.
A dedicated educator, she teaches at the Montecito Music Festival and has held faculty positions at Drew University, Rutgers University Extension Division, New York Music School, and PS 11 in Manhattan as a Juilliard Education Outreach Fellow. She serves as the Chair of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival’s Irvine branch, of the Music Teachers’ Association of California.
