Composition and Improvisation Workshop I: Dr. Vera Ivanova

These workshops are open to all the Pre-College participants, regardless of the chosen Curriculum Track. Although students are strongly encouraged to attend all three workshops as a set to maximize the benefit of the material covered, attending any one of the workshops separately will also be acceptable. Students will need to sign up prior to each workshop. Taught by Pre-College faculty member Dr. Vera Ivanova. Not open to the public.

Workshop I will introduce students to the art of composition and how it can be initiated in a variety of ways. Students will try different approaches - improvisation on your instruments, coming up with a short motive or melody and notating it on paper first and then developing it into a composition, while learning by looking at different “model” pieces.

Students will be asked to bring their instruments to the class, music staff paper, pencils and erasers.
